Smart intros NFC-enabled Nokia C7

It looks like Smart is banking on NFC to be the next must-have on our mobile phones. They’re now offering the Nokia C7 NFC model free on their All-In Plan 1800, plus a little taste of NFC.

The Nokia C7 NFC is among the very few handsets locally available that incorporates Near Field Communication into the device (along with the BlackBerry Bold 9900).

The previous, non-NFC variant has been around for some time but the NFC-capable handset has only arrived recently (correction: NFC was enabled in all Nokia C7 via a software upgrade).

Nokia C7 NFC specs:
3.5 AMOLED display @ 640×360 pixels
Symbian^3
350MB internal memory
8GB mass storage
up to 32GB via microSD
680MHz CPU
256MB RAM
8MP camera with dual LED flash
720p HD video recording @ 25fps
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
HSDPA 10.2MBps, HSUPA 2.0Mbps
Bluetooth 3.0
FM Radio Tuner
FM Transmitter
NFC
1200mAH battery

Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) introduced today “Tap Share” a new service that lets Smart subscribers download content by tapping on a poster.

With a Nokia C7 smartphone, Smart subscribers can now inquire about their prepaid balance or download mobile content such as news, music, and games using specially-marked posters in selected Smart Wireless Centers and Smart Stores nationwide.

Just came back from a Smart Center in Rockwell to subscribe to the Power Plug-It Plan and was looking for that post but could not find it.

I’m hoping Smart would add more locations, especially in the malls and other high-traffic places. It’s a nice to have tech but still has very limited practical use.

correct me if i am wrong yuga. the previous c7s (which is my currently my primary phone) already have the nfc hardware but disabled lang. now with the recent symbian anna update which i installed in mine, it activated the nfc hardware in the phone so now i can see nfc switch on and off in the settings and there is also a dedicated widget for it. so tecnically the previous variant is already equipped with nfc but recently enabled lang with the coming of symbian anna update. kaya kahit lumang c7 merong nfc kailangan lang i-update to latest OS para gumana

correct if i am wrong yuga. alam ko kasi yung previous c7 (which is currently my primary phone) may nfc but disabled. when symbian anna update came which i installed in mine, i can already see nfc on and off in the settings and also in a new widget. so technically matagal nang-nagarrive ang nfc capable c7 but recently enabled lang ang nfc nito with the symbian anna update.
