Smart has just enabled international data roaming for prepaid subscribers with unlimited daily mobile internet access for only Php500 per day.
It has taken a long time for Smart to offer this to 99% of its subscribers so we believe its prepaid subscribers will be glad to know they can use data romaing abroad.
The prepaid data roaming is currently limited to a few countries:
- Hong Kong (Hutchison)
- Indonesia (Indosat)
- Japan (NTT DoCoMo)
- Macau (Hutchison)
- Malaysia (DiGi, CelCom)
- Singapore (Starhub)
- South Korea (KTF)
- Taiwan (FET)
- Thailand (True Move)
- Vietnam (Vinaphone)
To activate prepaid data roaming:
1) Make sure to have at least Php500 load in your prepaid SIM.
2) Text ROAM ON then send to 333 before leaving the country. This activates SMS roaming at first so you can get signal from roaming partner abroad.
3) Once abroad, dial *133# to access the USSD Menu. Press ANSWER then enter 5 to choose DATA ROAMING.
4) Select the country and partner telco, then choose the ALL-DAY SURF ABROAD 500.
You should get a confirmation once subscribed. It is important to note that the roaming availment is valid from 12:00 midnight to 11:59PM of the same day. Hence, if you arrive at 10:00PM in the partner country and subscribed to roaming, you can use it for just 2 hours until 11:59PM.
You also need to subscribe to prepaid data roaming on a daily basis so make sure you have enough prepaid load when you go abroad.
This roaming service does not include Pinoy Roaming SIM and TnT subscribers.
Ibe used this many times and works good. Bit lately i noticed that after i regester thier is confirmation. My load all gone.
Bakit walang US?
Stupidly expensive. Only dumb people will avail this.
Or people with money who prefers the convenience of not having to get a local sim and set it up. Globe’s roaming free is P599.
E X P E N S I V E !
Maybe Smart Telco needs cash to pay for their ‘5 G LTE’
network. LOL
Recently, I bought a Global Sim Card with text, data and free call roaming for my unlock phone. Coverage is fine while in major cities but when in rural areas, there is none or very poor network signal. Buying a local sim card would have been a better deal for me.
I have been to Hongkong and Singapore and almost anywhere there is free Wifi. I do not think you have to subscrobe to this expensive service.
WiFi is not easy to find in Japan. But the pocket wifi rentals are far more convenient than P500 a day.
This is ridiculous.
Friendly tip: If you’re visiting another country, even say for only a few days, get a local sim from them. Most sim cards already come with unlimited data out of the box for a lot less price than P500 a day. Or even if you have to top-up, still going to be cheaper. Then take advantage of instant messaging over mobile data. (i.e. Viber, Line, Facetime)
yup yup. HK approx. 350php for 5 days or 1.5GB, whichever comes first
