65-inch LG Ultra HD 4K TV goes webOS

Just the other week-end, the team and some of our co-hosts in GeekyNights spend the whole afternoon and evening over at the Frasier place with this new 65-inch Ultra HD 4K TV from LG. The latest model in its line-up for 2014 puts a lot of focus on the platform.

The last time we heard about webOS, it was on the HP TouchPad. This time, it’s on a TV.

First time LG stated they are considered webOS on their TVs was back in February 2013. It was only until January this year when we finally saw an LG TV running webOS and this was during CES 2014 in Las Vegas.

Then, it’s finally here. Check out the video below.

If you’ve tried using the HP TouchPad from a couple years back, you’d have some familiarity with the webOS platform. However, on the LG TV, the webOS that we saw and experienced was slightly different.

There were some semblance of the old platform but this one has been re-tooled and revised to make the layout more adaptable to the larger screen the and remote input. What is more apparent is the fluidity, responsiveness and user experience that has been enhanced and made easier to use.

The 4.2 speakers on the sides looked like solid metallic pillars and can crank a really good volume and bass.

The built-in, retractable camera at the top is primarily used for Skype video conference but can also be used as surveillance camera, video recorder or just for those who love taking selfies.

The 3D feature of the TV only uses a simple passive camera so it’s lighter, cheaper and more comfortable to use for prolonged periods of time.

While 4K TVs are not that uncommon as like it was a year ago. In fact, 4K TVs are slowly becoming more acceptable and more affordable.

The LG Ultra HD 4K TV (65UB980T) is available in stores with a suggested retail price of Php249,990USD 4,260INR 361,136EUR 4,057CNY 31,024. It comes with a bundled 3D Blu-Ray player and 9.1 speaker system.
