Corning extends its glass technology to the PC market with the announcement of the Gorilla Glass NBT – the company’s latest cover glass designed to help protect touch-enabled notebook displays from scratches and other forms of damage that come from everyday handling and use.
According to Corning, the Gorilla Glass NBT provides “enhanced scratch resistance, reduced scratch visibility, and better retained strength once a scratch occurs to help protect notebook displays from breakage that can occur with lower-performing soda-lime glass.”
“We are confident that Corning Gorilla Glass NBT will outperform legacy soda-lime glass, delivering eight to 10 times more scratch resistance. In fact, for just 1 to 2 percent of a notebook’s retail price, consumers can now get the best cover glass solution: a Gorilla solution. Simply put, we believe that if you don’t have Gorilla on your device, it’s not as good.” said James R. Steiner, senior vice president and general manager, Corning Specialty Materials.
Meanwhile, Dell has also announced that it will be using the Gorilla Glass NBT on its newest products. “We’re integrating Corning Gorilla Glass NBT into our new client devices launching this fall, further enhancing our industry leading product reliability and durability.” said Sam Burd, vice president, PC Product Group, Dell.
Corning Gorilla Glass NBT is currently available and is expected to be featured on several notebook product models by leading global brands later this year.

Iyan Sommerset says:
While I understand why *touch-enabled* laptops would need these, I still don’t get why we’d need laptops with touchscreens. I’d prefer to keep my natural body oil localized on my keyboard and my mouse, thank you very much. Not to mention cheese curl residue, soda backspatter and the occasional tomato sauce/pizza smudge.
dan says:
dagdag presyo lang yan sa device, I’m sure someone makes a 200-300 pesos screen protector for that kind of device that has no gorilla or dragontrail
klint says:
Is this the new touch screened laptop and available to Philippine markets?
ariel says:
but eventually laptops would have a touch screen and this is the reason why corning gorilla glass is necessary…
touche says:
Not “eventually” !! They have been a reality for quite some time now ever since the launch of windows 8. I myself have one for almost half a year now.
Pabs says:
Why?!
I would understand putting this on PC-tablet hybrids, but for laptops?! They just need a reason to raise prices.
Adrian says:
“to help protect touch-enabled notebook displays”
