Corning unveils Anti-Microbial Gorilla Glass

Corning has announced their latest creation called Anti-Microbial Gorilla Glass which has the same scratch-resistant properties of its kin but also keeps your screen germ-free.

The company was able to achieve such feat, by imbuing the film with ionic silver. In theory, this electrically-generated solution kills the bacteria on your device’s screen and prevents it from reproducing.

Antimicrobial Gorilla Glass

As a proof that Corning isn’t just making this stuff up, the company even got their new glass certified by the US Environmental Protection Agency which gave them the right to call their new creation as the “first EPA-registered antimicrobial cover glass”.

If your still a bit cynical about this new glass, you can check out the research conducted by the folks over at ASM (American Society Microbiology) back in 2008 which shows the effect ionic silver on bacteria.

Corning didn’t say which upcoming device will sport their new glass, but we’re guessing that the company won’t have a hard time convincing manufacturers to include this technology on their high-end gadgets.

anyways… they need to think of something to boost up sales right. innovation is business even if the gimmick is useless.
