LG 34WL85C 34-inch Curved Ultrawide IPS Monitor

Maximizing real estate screen on the work setup is something everyone always long for — whether you’re working-from-home or back at the office. The bigger the screen the better. While most would go for the usual dual-display configuration, having a single, ultrawide monitor makes more sense and a better arrangement.

LG’s 34-inch ultra-wide curved monitor is perhaps at the top of anyone’s choice for a work monitor and that’s not just because of the screen real estate that you get. It’s expansive and overwhelming right out of the box. The monitor has that typical LG signature design that is simple, sturdy yet elegant with a very clean look that’s perfect for the office or home desk.

Upon setup, which was a really quick effort by the way, one might find it a bit confusing since there are no physical controls for the monitor settings. Everything is now done via an on-screen menu with a six-axis joystick for easy navigation. The controls are found at the center bottom end of the display for easy access.

You can adjust the height of the stand to set it at eye level when sitting on your desk or you can just swivel the panel at a comfortable angle.

Bigger Monitors, Better

Bigger monitors mean you can put up more windows on the screen at the same time. A web browser at one corner, Microsoft Word in another, a YouTube stream on the next, and all your chat windows on the 4th.

In our experience, we are able to split the screen into three windows with enough real estate for each window with comfort. Also, having an ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio feels like it is giving more real estate compared to the previous 32-inch 16:9 monitor I was using.

Not exactly for Gaming, More for Productivity

That’s not to say that you cannot do some hard-core gaming on this monitor. You still can although the 60Hz refresh rate and 5ms response time isn’t best-in-class, you can still enjoy immersive gaming with the huge 34-inch display. Just don’t expect the flawless response especially with high frame rate titles.

The monitor supports Screen Split and Picture-by-Picture (PBP) mode let you customize your screen to make multitasking easier and more efficient. You can only do PBP with DisplayPort and one of the 2 HDMI ports. This setup also adds a feature that you can transfer files from one computer to another by simply dragging the files from one window to the other. However, when we tried doing PBP with both HDMI ports, it’s not supported apparently.

To add a more immersive experience, the monitor also comes with dual 7W speakers with Maxx Audio support that works just enough for regular use and even when watching movies from as far as 6 feet away.

LG’s UltraWide monitors start at Php12,699 for the 25”, Php14,799 for the 29”, Php29,499 for the 34” while the 34-inch curved version retails for Php45,999.

The 34-inch curved model is perhaps one of the more affordable ones out there but if you are still on a budget but want the same screen real estate, do check out the 34-inch flat variant that’s under Php30k.
