BPI launches e-Prepaid Card and DealMania.ph

Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) tonight launches several new products including a BPI My e-Prepaid Card and a group buying site DealMania.ph dedicated to cardholders, a first for a Philippine bank.

BPI’s My e-Prepaid Card is basically a prepaid/reloadable credit card. It works for online purchases so you only spend for amount that’s already loaded on the card, nothing more. This is ideal for folks that son’t have any credit card yet since it’s 100% approval for all applicants. You can go apply on here for free at bpicards.com.

The other one is basically a group-buying site, DealMania.ph.

The deal site is basically exclusive to all BPI card holders (I heard its in the 500k range so that’s still a lot of subs). It’s powered by one of the bigger and more popular deal sites, Buyanihan.

Check out the deals there if your a BPI cardholder.

Disclosure: Was contacted by BPI’s PR agency earlier to try out the e-Prepaid card. It was pre-loaded with some amount and I am thinking of a way to do a raffle and buy the lucky winner any gadget (within budget of course) he or she likes online.

  5. James Ryan says:

  6. markerwins says:

Still now wala padin akong email regarding my card, last November pako nag-apply.

  7. James Ryan says:

Out of curiousity, I called my local bpi branch around 4pm kanina to check if my bpi my eprepaid card arrived, hanggang ngayon wala pa ring ideya yung empleyado nila tungkol sa card. Anyway, my card arrived and ready to be claimed. I was required to present 2 government issued id. Balak ko siya kunin bukas, I’ll check if they’ll ask me to pay P500.

  8. Wayne says:

Have anyone here have used this card na? :) Please reply hehe xD

  9. Allen says:

Linked and Worked with my paypal

    • Herb says:

Hello allen, how can you link this with paypal?

  10. darius says:

may nakagamit an ba nito? does it work? can you purchase from ebay using this card?

  11. Isis says:

It costs P500 for the card. Waived siguro kung client ka ng BPI, pero for me not worth it ang P500. Siguro if client ka na ng BPI. And it expires every 2 years. Ngek.

    • Mark says:

Oh, so pag depositor ka waived na yung 500?

  12. James Ryan says:

Ako din, almost 2 weeks na naghihintay ng comfirmation ng BPI. Ang bagal talaga ng BPI.

  13. Mark says:

Hello, ilang days mo nakuha yung card from your application? Still no word from BPI, 2 weeks nako nag-iintay. Thanks!

  14. James Ryan says:

Thanks for the info Ramil Trinidad. Give us feedback kapag nagamit mo na yung card. :)

  15. Ramil Trinidad says:

Nakuha ko na yung card ko ngayon lang dito sa Tayuman Branch. Para po sa naguguluhan Wala pong bayad ang pagkuha sa card as in 0.00 wala ako nilabas na pera.

    • Marty says:

I think sir Ramil just got away with it, since it’s new, mga staff ng different branches naguguluhan din.

I paid PHP500 and I’m a BPI account holder, but lets see kung mag reflect sya tomorrow as load, since sa ATM pinasok ang bayad ko nung taga bangko

  16. Jesse Bautista says:

How much should be the preloaded amount?

  17. Alex says:

  18. Hazel says:

I signed up last week or so, still no word from BPI about my application. I did get a promotional email from them about it, so I’m sure they got my details. I just wish they’d update me on the progress of my application.

  19. James Ryan says:

just signed up for this new offering of bpi through bpi’s site. I have a ps bank prepaid mastercard and i don’t have an account with ps bank so it’s hassle to reload the card. good thing bpi launched their own. let’s see how long will it take to get the card.

  20. Jaq says:

Can this be used in Android Market?

    • Jayson Tamayo says:

Use your BPI ePrepaid Card to create a Google Checkout account. Google Checkout can be used in purchasing apps in Google Play.

  21. replyer says:

Fail! Not accepting BPI number… Wrong procedure…

  22. ubiquiadamer says:

The link is suspicious. After I went out of the site, a link showed up saying that I won a prize. Besides, even the employees of BPI like jego207 don’t know this.

    • ubiquiadamer says:

Scratch my comment above. I confirmed the BPI ePrepaid card via their site.

  23. jego207 says:

Im from BPI. It’s fairly new to me. A lot of clients are already asking about it. :) I wonder where you guys learned about this.

  24. Name: Ian says:

I went to bpi last nOv 9 and they are not yet aware of it

  25. OneAcreon says:

Hey, I just read the agreement and it turns out that the prepaid card CANNOT have more than 10k pesos loaded on it a a time. Good luck finding a gadget under 10k. :P

  26. Dyke says:

This is just what I need, a better way to pay for my porn subscription.

    • Solo88 says:

grabe natawa ako dito..actually i was thinking it too..haha good job Dykes

  27. Luke says:

This is best for students. Having a credit card is a necessity nowadays. I can’t wait to have my own prepaid credit card to buy stuff online.

  28. Jonah says:

Thanks for this info. I am using Union OEN but I am not sure if this BPI ePrepaid is better. Do most sites accept this card for online purchases?

    • justin says:

hi jonah. have you been using the EON card for online shopping? how has it been so far?

  29. dumont says:

After reading about it on BPI’s site, looks like it functions like Unionbank’s EON yun nga lang hindi siya pwedeng ATM at may limit. Although in the long run, mas cheaper siya anually. 500 every 2 years vs 350/year ng EON.

  30. jonaflormicfren says:

It is another way to stay connected if you have the means.

  31. Martin says:

pangit ng design. plus you have to pay for a P500 processing fee.

  32. Val says:

Sir Abe, is this only limited to Manila? If yes, do you know kung kailan available sa Cebu? Thanks!

  33. roiji says:

pwede rin siguro tong prepaid thingy as a gift… parang GC… kaso 4 months ang expiry…

  34. Concerned says:

    son’t?

  35. Abe Olandres says:

Yup, you can use it for iTunes and Amazon.

  36. rotero says:

can i use this BPI prepaid card in purchasing apps in itunes?

  37. Benben says:

I also use smartmoney, it’s like e-wallet or debit card. You can use it like other credit card because it is mastercard! I use it for local shops (resto, malls, anywhere that accepts mastercard) and also for online transactions (paypal or any mastercard accredited). It is also safe for recurring transactions or unauthorized transactions online since you will know if someone is trying to use your card# and CVC# because you will be promted via SMS, and by default online transaction is locked. You need to unlock it everytime you transact online(via smart sim menu) as also mentioned by Vince. And since you may link your bank account to your smart sim (mobile banking), you can easily add funds to your smart money through mobile banking fund transfer. easy!

  38. jerome says:

Pwede kaya ito sa tiger airways?

  39. vince says:

I use smart money. Its also prepaid and it also emulates mastercard electronic. I use it for paypal/internet transactions and for shopping in local malls.

It has 2 great safety features. First, internet transactions are locked by default. You have to unlock it before using it with paypal and it auto locks after the transaction or if idle for some time. Second, every transaction has a confirmation texted to your smart celphone sim, sometimes within seconds. So you know immediately if someone has stolen your card and is using it

  40. ogago says:

    pwede ba to sa paypal?

  41. jean baptiste says:

Pwedeng gamitin sa iTunes and Amazon?

  42. Nika says:

Will it work like the eon card? Kc if it’s prepaid diba it’s more of a debit card?

    • Nika says:

Ah. After reading the info from their site stick na lang muna ako sa Eon since it’s cheaper din at Php 350 a year, unless pwede gamitin yung e-Prepaid sa online subscriptions which usually ask for credit cards.

I think mahirap yung “no pin” feature ng e-Prepaid kasi mas madali mag-forge ng signature kesa manghula ng pin. If you lose it and hindi mo agad mapansin, other people might be able to use it. Di mo na mababawi or cancel yun purchases before mo ma-report na missing yung card mo.

    • Abe Olandres says:

      Yeah, almost similar.

  43. Harold says:

    Sir Yuga,

Is there an online application for e-prepaid card?

    Thanks!

  44. Ron says:

    nice. parang PSBank Prepaid Mastercard.

  45. leo23 says:

wow! bait ni sir yuga :)

  46. Iyan Sommerset says:

Is this like GroupOn or something?

    • christian says:

      Yep!

  47. Benchmark says:

how nice of you naman sir yuga to share your blessing! :) Sige pa-raffle na yang e-prepaid na yan! hehehe joke! ;)
