Been getting this GMail security alert for a couple of times last week and I thought it was just a bug. GMail is reporting that someone else from another IP has logged into my account but could not give more details.
Here’s what the alert looks like when it appears on the top of the GMail Inbox.
I thought it was just an API access or something, like Feedburner or a Chrome extension. It happened again and originated from another country. Looks like it’s not a hack or breach since I am still able to login to my Google accounts. However, just to be safe, I’ve also changed my password.
IN any case, it’s a nice security feature in GMail that I only bumped into just now. Has anyone experienced the same lately?

Drey says:
Nope.. wla pa po sir yuga.. i use a mail client does that help at all? no?
tipler says:
you may want to change/check your alternative email address and secret questions, those might have been set up as back doors even if you change your password. best to change secret questions and password at the same time IMO.
ella says:
yep, someone from china tried accessing my account:)
and sending spam to my contacts
Patrick says:
If you have allowed some notification tool access to your gmail inbox, then that may be it since it shows “Atom feed” as the access type. But yeah, I would change my password just the same if this happened to me. You can never be too safe here.
Jon says:
I check the stats from gmail every now and then. I agree, changing the password is the best thing to do. Have you tried doing some research on the IP accessing your account?
Patrick says:
Got it. Looked up the IPs using ip-lookup.net and they all are from Netvibes. I used that service also to check my Gmail account before.
MrOrange says:
I’d suggest you change your password. That happened to me 4 months ago. affected 2 of 3 of my Gmail accounts and am even using Mozilla thunderbird.
deuts says:
Fortunately that has not happenend to me yet. If I were you, I would surely be alarmed the same.
iPimp says:
Is a form of this notification available for mail clients? I never use the web-based Gmail.
ANONI says:
got those when i have my e71 nokia messaging pulls my gmails automatically every morning.
Juneau says:
This happened to me also. my account was said accessed in UK or something. but then i realized I’ve been using an app on the iPhone4 which was “truphone” that is i think their servers are located in the UK.
Maybe some of your activity logs are from a third party app/software/etc that you’ve been using. im not sure tho.
Dyamamoto says:
Check filtering on your gmail account. Someone Might have created a forwarding email address on your account.
Gwapo ko says:
Ive tried it also..my remedy was also the same i change the password
joeyoliver says:
I DID.
And they hacked my other accounts through my gmail.
The ip addresses came from Europe. They accessed my paypal, rapidshare, hotfile, skype, ym etc.
GRABE LANG. Goodthing i had my gmail linked to my Yahoo so i was able to retrieve it by sending the new password to yahoo.
^@@#^#$@#&^@#%@#!!!!!
Jhay says:
Never happened to me before as I’ve never even allowed a third-party service to check my Gmail inbox.
I may not be hiding top-secret messages in my inbox but I’m too much of a paranoid to allow something or someone else to access my email.

Sorry to say this, but yuga, you’re not really that an I.T. person i thought. Kasi napapansin ko yung mga post mo is either first time mo lang ma-encounter na hindi naman rare thing.
Abe Olandres says:
@getz – I didn’t say I’m an IT person. Just a simple blogger. I guess you’re wrong to assume I am an IT person. I accept your apologies though.
mr.bogus says:
really???… im using gmail for 4 yrs now dahil walang spam emails di gaya sa yahoo.. interesting article..
gpmelendez says:
scary.
lgting says:
I got this too, about a couple of months ago. Did the same thing as you; changed my password just to be on the safe side
DJ says:
On an only-slightly related topic, when my Gmail account was hacked a few months ago I was delighted at the smooth reactivation process. Google asked for my cellphone number so it can send a verification code; as I was typing it in I wondered if it would work, considering that shortly before that I wasn’t able to verify my Facebook account because they supported only one network in this country. I was surprised then as I received the code merely seconds later. Google’s support network is admirable.
Jeric says:
yes, got the same thing, it mentioned that it was accessed last Oct.15 from an unknown connection in China.
yizhan says:
never experience that before.. I’m accessing all my email accounts including my gmail account via MS Outlook.
chris says:
that’s great alert from gMail..
Harley says:
it occurred to me. someone was accessing my account in california and i was given a gps location on the IP accessing my account. i think it is because i was sending mails to my blackberry and maybe got a mixed up.
that happened just last week!
peace!
Gwapito says:
I received a similar notification from Yahoomail. I changed my password right away.
Eric says:
Encountered this once, changed my password asap. in case someone changed your password, you can give gmail your mobile phone so that they can tell that you are who you tell you are. :)
edongsky says:
my HTC wildfire can not access internet services what should i do? any help?
Wala says:
Baka nagpalit lang kayo ng ip. Pwede naman i disable yan.
JC John Sese Cuneta says:
Yep, a few months back. I think they are tweaking their detection tools and so it is trying to re-learn everything. It usually is triggered when an IP got logged in another location with a distance that is impossible to travel compared to your most recent (and frequent) GeoIP login.
And that usually happens with third-party services like the one on your screenie – Atom feed.
cybercon says:
same thing to me, i change passwd anyway. i’ve been accessing emails in simultaneous and once an a while via opera mini on my mobile phone. OM browsers works with proxy usually Norway based proxy servers, and sometimes I use web proxies(very unsafe). I presume that the last time i checkmail via web proxy Gmail warning appears. Avoid using web proxies accessing sites that needs your account login information.
Deandra Marolda says:
I do love the way you have framed this concern and it does indeed supply us a lot of fodder for consideration. Nevertheless, from just what I have observed, I just wish as the actual commentary stack on that folks keep on point and not get started upon a soap box involving some other news of the day. Still, thank you for this fantastic piece and while I do not necessarily agree with the idea in totality, I regard the point of view.
Arla Elhaddad says:
Nice post. I be taught something tougher on different blogs everyday. It would at all times be stimulating to read content material from different writers and practice a little something from their store. I’d choose to use some with the content material on my blog whether or not you don’t mind. Natually I’ll offer you a link in your net blog. Thanks for sharing.
