PEx is probably the largest and one of the oldest existing forums in the country. Despite the growth and the amount of traffic it gets, the happy problem of making money off of the eyeballs is still a constant challenge. Looks like PEx is squeezing out all it can do to bump up the effective CPM. However, lately, there have been some allegations of spamming though.
A long-time forum member, Witty, posted a message to the administrators of the forum — “Stop giving out our email to Spammer“. Apparently, members are getting email ads from sponsors/advertisers of the message board. Here’s part message posted by the forum member:
I just got an email from unbreakablebabes.com regarding “UNO Fashion Series: SEE and BE SEEN at Piedra on OCT 19” which I consider spam.
Under the ads, it says:
Disclaimer: You have received this e-mail because you subscribed to PinoyExchange.com or Unbreakababes.com. If you would no longer wish to receive updates from us, please send an e-mail with the subject UNSUBSCRIBE” to [email protected].
I sent an email to unsubscribe but here’s what i got:This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:
[email protected]
mailbox is full: retry timeout exceeded
Again, please don’t sell/give our email address to your sponsor. Spam sucks and I’m surprised PEX would give out our email address to those spammers
I also get similar email ads and I understand where PEx is coming from but such type of ads (esp. via email) can be disastrous when not handled or monitored carefully. Good news is that there’s an opt-out. Bad news is that it’s not working.

I’m also a long time member of pex, so far the “spams” i get there are those sent to my private messages, and i rarely check my PMs.
PinoyMakeMoney says:
old member here of pex, i havent received any spam from them. there are always better solution to it if you can’t opt-out just block their email address.
jhay says:
I joined PEx two years ago (?) but I wasn’t really an active member since then. So no spam for me, but hey, any spam is still spam and it’s not good.
Lonely Pinoy says:
Good thing I do not know PEx.

I’m a member of PinoyExchange for a long time. I have registered with my old GMail account which is not working now for a reason Google can’t even explain, so I haven’t received these spam messages yet.
I bet their getting huge cash from a large database of email addresses. ;D

What we are doing in tsikot when promoting a sponsor or advertiser, we just send a private message to each member. Sending it directly sa email addy ng members eh baka maaccused pa ng spam… There are also offers para magrent ng database of users namin before but we declined.
The role of an online community dapat is to protect its members, protecting the identity of the members and let them decide if they want to give their private details within the forums. Renting it out to 3rd party companies is a big NO NO…
There are other ways on how to effectively promote a company na hindi magagalit ang members, but not to the extent na maiintrude na ang privacy.
