There is now a search engine for the leaked COMELEC database

The COMELEC website was hacked last month by LulzSec Pilipinas and was able to obtain the site’s database which includes information of about 70 million registered voters and uploaded it online. Someone made a search engine out of that data allowing anyone to search for a name and instantly get that info.

UPDATE (04/21/2016) 6:13PM: Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez posted a statement on his Twitter account concerning the searchable database. The NBI’s CyberCrimes Division is now looking into the website and investigating. Jimenez also advises not to use the website as “it can be used to by the hackers to steal your information and thus expose you further to the dangers of identity theft.”

Full statement embedded below:

The website lets you search for a name. It will then show the results (first 50) and a link to the full info which is the alarming part as it can contain your full name, date of birth, address, and passport information.

As for the reason behind the making of the search engine, here’s what is stated on the site – “For lulz. Hackers just hack and download data from websites but we make it accessible for anyone. It’s one thing to hear news about a huge data leak and another to is see your data in a public website. Maybe, at least now, government will start thinking about security of citizens’ personal data.”

Editor’s note: We are publishing this story to make the people aware that because of the hacking their personal information is now available for anyone with internet access to see. We are against the use of the said information for malicious purposes.

With the searchable data that they did then I think this guys aren’t real hackers. Real hackers follow certain ethics even the Blackhat guys. That was nothing but a political stunt to divert from real issue (much like a cover-up). The data leak is not real but more of an inside job. They were trying to perpetuate that it is but the reality is that someone inside did that

They failed to take the site down, it is still online. Stupid hackers, Juan dela Cruz has nothing to do with this but what you did is wanton disregard to private lives rather than the corrupt government. It was a gratuitous act of stupidity.

Can’t the government asked Telcos to block access to the site or issue take down if the hosting site is local or of a friendly state?

I know this is like whack-a-mole where if you shut one site, it will pop up elsewhere, but is the government helpless to prevent it from disseminating?

Please don’t post the link. You are helping the breach by doing so.

This is not so cool… The Filipino people are already suffering from corruption of some government officials and yet again the poor Pinoys are the sole victim of this hacking and exposing data online all over the internet/world.
Shame on displaying skills in an appropriate manner, if you are really a filipino hacking group with concern on your people your should hack and expose multi-billion pesos project scams, ghost employees, flying voters and other forms of government corruption.

Yet this proves you know nothing but to show power of skills to victimize the poor civilian Pinoy.
    SHAME on you!!!
