Microsoft revises Xbox One DRM & connectivity policies

After almost a month of constant negative feedback from the gaming community, Microsoft finally caves in and makes some changes in the Xbox One’s Digital Rights Management (DRM) policy and internet connectivity requirements.

Here are the major changes to the Xbox One:

  • An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
  • Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

In addition:

  • Downloaded games from Xbox Live can be played offline.
  • Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console. There will be no regional restrictions.
  • The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc.
  • Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold.
  • Playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

What do you guys think? Are these enough to make you reconsider the Xbox One? Share your thoughts below.

    well said!

It shows a lack of vision, planning and leadership to reveal the policy, double-down on it, say how great it is, then change it. That’s all. – Colin Moriarty

Microsoft does a 360 on the Xbox One!

    • RJCA says:

You probably mean 180, 360 would mean that nothing changed.

  7. bababoom says:

It’s now being dubbed all over the internet as the XBOX 180….hehehe

  8. Danny says:

they we’re even using fake demo units when E3 was being held….seriously in doubt of Xbox One cause of that

  9. VOFOL says:

$60 yung eye ng ps4. still eyeing on ps4 as of now.

    • red says:

NO, with $500 pricing, Sony still on the lead with $400 and an add on $49 for the Eye

  13. Noir says:

Yes it changed BUT I still find it hard to purchase XBOX due to the fact that it will still need streaming to produce better graphics(lower specs than PS4)

    also

What makes you think that they wont back track on this once they got their desired market share? Even Sony did it

  14. Digest says:

Its like MS is saying “hugas kamay” lol

    No thanks.
