I have a friend who would not open any of his newly-bought gadgets unless he has the screen protector and wrapped it with a case. One time, it took him over a month before he was able to use his new iPod Touch because there wasn’t any locally available case for it yet.
Apparently, the gadget case industry is a huge industry. Imagine the hundreds of millions of phones being sold every year? And that’s just phones — there are other devices like tablets, portable gaming devices and the likes. I reckon the industry generates at least $2 billion in revenues a year.
Anyway, got these new Case-Mate Safe Skin sent over to me last week. They’re your typical rubber case and thin-and-hard polymer cases to protect your newly bought HTC smartphones.
Barely There for the HTC Sensation – Php1,100
Safe Skin for the HTC Sensation – Php600
Barely There for the HTC Wildfire S – Php1,100
(I know the names sound like they’re selling something else.)
I actually liked my devices bare/naked so I can appreciate their design; the feeling of cold metal and the texture of the finish.
But if you’re the type (and I think most people are) who’s afraid to get their precious one get scratched, bumped or dented, then protective cases like these are a must.
If you’re still looking for a good deal on an HTC Sensation, check out this bundle from Top Electronics — a Case-Mate Safe Skin and Sensation for Php27k flat.
Let me end this with a little survey — do you like your precious gadgets naked or protected?

jlapitan says:
naked with invisible shield…
fragglerocker says:
protected, y? gives the phone some added personality not to mention higher resale value and if your using IPhone4, it is essential or else experience the death grip =)
Shakey says:
Wala bang “dotted”? =P
garz says:
NAKED. For me, a gadget loses its aesthetic quality when covered in these cases.. The only thing in my phone’s a screen protector.
Dan MD says:
Depends on the period. LOL.
I have an N8 with a robust metal body but I still use protection most of the time. I only use it unsheathed during special functions when I want the to show off the gadget and make it lighter for my attire/suit.
Krate says:
No bare phones for me… This protects and gives my phone a bit of personality…my iphone 4 and my other phones wears capdase to griffin even cases with angry birds theme…now im planning to buy the cassette tape inspired case.
Apache says:
Both there is a hobby of mine that i like to keep like for example i like my Gadget to be protected when outside but inside doors like my house and other places that i leave them be i make my Gadget go FREE AND NAKED and sometimes its still better to use them as it is like for example iPad 2 for some people yeah its Your Precious but if your just in your bed or sofa go be free enjoy the new thin and light of the iPad 2. :D

I like the Case-mate cases. Not bad na rin ang presyo.
Ryan816 says:
I had to import 3 Case-mate Barely There cases for my Desire HD. I like ’em better than the silicone CaPDAse I already have. These are slimmer and grippy enough to handle. Nothing beats being bare though. If only the phone was not slippery to hold.
Abby says:
I thought HTC phones were created to be naked? with their design, I think its one tough cookie. :)
Meatyballs says:
I have a Silicon case, 1 hard case 1 leather case for my Optimus One. But like what you have said I want to appreciate the design of the Phone. so I just bought them maybe because I just want to try it out.
zer0ice says:
Naked. Why cover something you wanted to see in the first place?
Benchmark says:
I really don’t buy my mobile phone some protective casing…even those screen protector…I just want a sock (3M gadget cloth I sew)…
But when my 2 yr. old Samsung star 1st gen bog down (LCD screen would not respond), I brought it to Samsung service to have it fix. They suggest me to buy my phone a leather case and a screen protector so that the LCD would not bend when place inside the pocket.
It cost me 1k for the capdase leather case and the screen protector…I hope this will make my phone another 2 years.
ARG! I miss my phone BARE!
Makee says:
I use a sleeve for my Galaxy S because I don’t want it to get banged up when I drop it.
H says:
protected of course. pero my main reason for dressing up my nokia n8 is to personalize it. mine is a lavender silicone case. used to have (stolen) iphone 3gs white, bought a transparent colorless silicone case cause i wanted to protect it from scratches and yet display its original beauty. the case turned yellow after a few months (eww) despite my babad to bleach and all.
Yoe says:
I don’t mind if its protected, just not those glossy+chunky+textured ones.
roiji says:
i’d like my devices to be naked as much as possible.
my reason is that i want to enjoy it as the manufacturer intended it.
the only protection i give my devices is a sock/sleeve/or whatever it’s called.
JKisaragi says:
Looks like they’re just missing “Extra Sensitive” to complete their line-up of skins/cases. XD
Name: says:
I like having mine naked. Why? Cases makes your phone bulky and feel cheap.
What’s the use of your brushed aluminum phone if you’re still gonna use plastic case to cover it?
You bought a slim and light device then why are you gonna put something to make it heavy and bulky?
But then, I’m not against screen protectors even though you have Gorilla Glass display because IMO the screen is the most important part not to scratch off. And an extra protection is not bad, isn’t it?
LunaTech says:
I have a perforated case for my galaxy tab since the back can easily get scratch but thats it, no need for screen protector kasi gorilla glass sya. ;-)
gee says:
yes, always protected like me hahaha… sabi nga “always wear your rubbers”
Emman says:
I have an S2 and I have the Capdase leather case,,, I like cases too but my S2 has heating issues that’s why when I use power hungry apps, I remove it from the case. and also like abe said, to appreciate the design of the device.
I Loled about the PS of abe about the names of the cases,,,
Jesse Dedel says:
protected, thanks! :)
