Launched in China last May 2023 32 was OPPO’s Reno 10 series. And after just two months of waiting, they’re finally here.

In this written review, we are checking-out the entry model of the line up, the OPPO Reno 10 5G.

Read on!

Design and Construction

The OPPO Reno 10 5G exudes sophistication with its sleek design. A seamless blend of glass and aluminum forms the phone’s front, ensuring both durability along with premium aesthetics and well-built feel.

Available in two enchanting colors, Galactic Silver and Starry Black, this device caters to a variety of tastes for any interested buyer who crave a touch of elegance in their smartphones.

Reno 10 5g (1)

Our review unit is in the Galactic Silver color and for a phone rocking a polycarbonate rear, it really does feel solid enough to hammer a nail down with (we DO NOT recommend that of course).

For I/O, starting on top, the Reno 10 features dual STEREO speakers, one of which can be found here along with an IR blaster and noise-canceling mic for loudspeaker calls.

Reno 10 5g (4)

The volume rocker and green-accented power button can be found on the right side. While the hybrid dual nano-SIM card tray, noise-cancelling mic for regular calls, USB Type-C port for charging and data transfers, and the second half of the stereo speakers can be found at the bottom.

It’s still great to see the quirky touches like a green-accented power button, something OPPO has been doing with their handsets for YEARS, as well as a nifty infrared sensor for turning your device into a universal remote.

Display, Multimedia and Biometrics

Reno 10 5g (17)

The OPPO Reno 10 5G boasts a large 6.7-inch 3D AMOLED display that will leave you spellbound. With a resolution of 1080 x 2412 pixels (394 ppi), out of the box this screen showcases vibrant colors and sharp details with good contrast for an unparalleled visual experience.

The display is slightly curved to ensure you don’t accidentally touch the screen with your palm, OPPO even claims it’s calibrated for 100% coverage of the sRGB and DCI-P3 color spaces.

Which provides a color accurate experience for content consumption across any application.

But that’s not all!

— The display is optimized for fluidity with a refresh rate that goes up to 120Hz, and a touch-sampling rate of up to 240Hz, ensuring that every swipe and scroll feels remarkably smooth in a mostly optimized user interface, and a lag-free gaming session (taking into account connectivity woes).

Viewing this display under direct sunlight was no slouch either with a peak brightness that can reach 800 nits.

When it came to consuming content on the Reno 10 5G, we were pleasantly surprised. It features a stereo speaker setup; the drivers can be found at the top and bottom of the device.

AND they aren’t half bad!

Reno 10 5g (8)

The sound stage is wide enough for a smartphone of this caliber, and the resolution is very crisp, especially in the more distorted Ultra Volume Mode. You can activate this by maxing out the volume and going even beyond the 100% limit. Note that this is probably best used for loudspeaker or video calls, and when listening to conversation-heavy content.

These speakers can get very loud, I’ll be registering this at the lower end of the “I’ve got a BT speaker for a phone” spectrum, for its weaker to absent-feeling low end.

Overall, we loved viewing videos and content on this device. Any nit-picky complaints here would probably be a higher resolution display but it certainly does not need it.

Cameras

For budding photography enthusiasts, the OPPO Reno 10 5G is a dream come true. If you’re coming from a device 4 years old or older; Its triple camera setup on the rear elevates your photography game to new heights.

Reno 10 5g (3)

It’s composed of a 64MP primary sensor [f/1.7], a 32MP telephoto [f/2.0], and an 8MP ultrawide [f/2.2].

The 64MP primary sensor captures good sharp photos with lifelike details. You can get a lot out of that 64MP sensor especially if you know how to paint your subjects properly with light.

The 32MP telephoto lens expands your creative possibilities, as it features a 2x hybrid optical zoom and a digital zoom that defaults to 5x but can go up to 20x.

And for selfie lovers, it boasts a 32MP front-facing camera, adequate for video calls, and maybe even live video hosting with a proper lighting setup. Just keep in mind that the front-facing sensor does not feature AF, so remember to tap to focus on your subjects when taking selfies.

Reno 10 5g (6)

Both the main rear and selfie sensor feature Optical Image Stabilization and they’re adequately good as well.

We can shoot up to 4K at 30fps with the main camera, and 1080p at 30fps with the front-facing camera.

OS, Apps, UI

Reno 10 5g (10)

Running on Android 13 skinned with ColorOS 13.1 on top, the OPPO Reno 10 5G provides a clean and intuitive user interface. The software is designed to optimize performance, enhance efficiency with its hardware, and provide a seamless user experience.

Navigating through apps, settings, and menus feel good and snappy for the most part, especially when you set the display’s refresh rate to High.

In the same vein as that nifty IR sensor, a software feature called “Auto Pixelate” seems like a good privacy feature.

What it does is allow you to pixelate sensitive details from screenshots, like avatars or profile pictures and names from something like chat and messaging screenshots. Just remember to edit the screenshot you took before sending it, the Pixelate option should appear at the bottom when inside the editing menu.

Performance and Benchmarks

Under the hood, the OPPO Reno 10 5G packs a punch with its MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chipset. Built on a 6nm process, this powerhouse delivers exceptional performance without compromising on efficiency.

The octa-core CPU and Mali-G68 MC4 GPU work harmoniously, providing the perfect blend of power and finesse, whether you’re engaged in resource-intensive gaming or seamless multitasking!

For configurations both Reno 10 5G variants come with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. Storage is expandable via microSD card, but you’d have to sacrifice the second nano SIM slot for this (sorry dual SIM users).

Reno 10 5g (11)

Gaming performance on this device was very good for average day-to-day use, while typing documents and notes on the go was a breeze.

Lags and hiccups were experienced but it was most likely due to poor network coverage.
