Polar Loop 2 Review

Features

The Loop 2 tracks and displays the steps you’ve taken, calories burned, and your activity levels throughout the day as well as telling the time like a normal watch. A bar is shown and is filled up throughout the day indicating how much, or how little, you have to do to reach your activity goals.

It also shows suggestions on how long you have to walk, run, or stand to reach your goals. It is a good motivational tool to keep you aware and active throughout the day. Coupled with a vibrating inactivity alarm that sets off every 55 minutes of little or no activity, the Loop 2 gives you no excuse to be sedentary.

Sleep tracking is also available for the Loop 2, and it does it automatically. It seems pretty accurate as it tracks not just sleeping at night, but even afternoon or morning naps. The information  does not get displayed on the band, though, and is only accessible through the app. You will be able to see how much restful and restless sleep you’ve had but it only goes as far as that; it does not give suggestions on how to get better sleep or if your sleep was adequate.

Opening the app will give you a visual representation of the data that you see on the Loop 2 as well as a bunch of other info to help you get a better understanding of your fitness levels.

An hourly pie chart is available on the home screen indicating your active times for the day. Activity levels are reflected in different shades of turquoise indicating the intensity of the activity and the amount of time it was done. Tapping on this pie chart will show a general summary of your activity levels throughout the day.

Below the main pie chart you will find the completed percentage of your daily activity goals, suggested (sometimes quite absurd) activities to help you reach those goals, inactivity stamps, sleep tracking, as well as the activity metrics visible on the Loop 2 device.

It can also be synced with Polar’s additional line of wireless heart rate sensors. Connecting the heart rate sensor to the polar loop will unlock the Smart Coaching features such as Heart Rate Tracking, Energy Pointer and Training Benefit.

Smart Notifications is a new feature added to the Loop 2 that notifies you of either messages (text, Facebook messages, Viber, etc.), calendar alerts and calls when paired with a device via Bluetooth. The band vibrates and displays the kind of notification you have just received.

Polar also maximizes the vibration function by featuring a silent alarm. The time of the alarm can be set on the Polar Flow app and is turned off by a long press on the Loop 2’s capacitive touch button.

The Loop 2 is also compatible with third-party apps such as Apple Health and MyFitnessPal for those who have existing data and wish to transfer and/or share.
