It’s the CES once again and we’re seeing tons of new drool-worthy gizmos and gadgets. One of them is the preview of the Skiff, a bendable eReader. Check out the photos below to believe.
The Skiff gets and awesome display size at 11.5″ with a resolution of 1200×1600 pixels.
The company, Hearst, hints the device is durable and is actually bendable since it uses a flexible sheet of stainless-steel foil. It’s got WiFi, 3G, a 4GB built-in storage for ebooks and SD card expansion slot.
The Skiff is said to be locked to Sprint so I don’t think we’ll be able to see or use one here in the Philippines. No price indicated but we’ll update this post once it’s officially announced at CES.

the gadget is nince but I don’t think it gonna beat the laptop, netbook and pda
Kyle says:
@marvin
Ofcorz it won’t but it will beat books in the future for sure… gusto ko bumili ng ganyang klaseng reader.. suited for ebooks ba toh? mas ayos to kaysa kindle
Erin says:
@marvin: i have experienced using a laptop (which I sold because of), a netbook, and a PDA (which served me for more than 5 years) for reading on the go. The netbook and laptop was no match for the PDA if I just want to read but the size leaves much to be desired if I want to read something other than plain text. Right now my PDA is broken so I am reading plain text materials out of my SE K618 phone.
I want an eReader so I can start reading materials with lots of code snippets and graphics (like ebooks, graphic novels, papers, etc.). I don’t have budget but I can always save and hope that the next few iterations will be cheaper and more feature-rich.
ciao!

Oooh.. this actually looks nice. But, will it bend? (sorry, couldn’t help it!) ^_^
Reel Advice says:
Sayang it is locked with sprint. Maybe the next Kindle would take their idea
rene says:
very nice . . . hope it reads pdf files also among others which is the standard torrent download he he he
Rodney Garcia says:
It’s a great tool for reading. But I think it will only tap a small market here since most Filipinos prefer reading an actual book than an electronic one. Not everyone can afford an electronic book reader.
Unless we make it more accessible to people, then I know it will fly.
Dan Payment says:
So far, it’s one of the best examples of what an eReader could be, the only real problem I see is the size. I’ve been using eReaders for about 15 years now, started with an EB-1150 way back when, the upgraded to a Sony a few years back. The Sony is now slowly dying of old age, so I’m looking for a replacement. I’d seriously consider this one IF they offered it in something of a smaller size, between 18-23cm (7-9″). I want something that’s easy to carry, maybe big/small enough to fit in my hip pocket, but something that’s going to be durable. The Skiff is almost there.
