Developed by some pretty talented Filipinos for about a year now, this new social networking site, Kitiwit, wants to carve a niche of its own and separate itself from the usual Facebook crowd.
Met up with reps of Kitiwit to discuss details and how they want to position the site to differentiate it with all other social networking sites.
Of course, it’s hard not to compare it with the current king and queen of SNS but if you look closely, they actually use Twitter API and Facebook Connect for easy access and registration (they even have an FB Fan Page and Twitter account as well so it’s a friendly neighborhood).
Kitiwit focuses on 3 major channels — the social stream, an integrated blogging tool and a built-in classifieds. The site is still in beta but it has incorporated a lot of features from Google+, Facebook, etc.
What’s interesting is that they already got a Kitiwit iPhone App rolled out this early and I am told the Android App is coming out in a month or two.
I requested if they could roll out some sort of a brand page (similar to an FB Fan Page or that upcoming Google+ for Businesses) so I can add YugaTech in there and they said it will be out soon.
For the meantime, you can sign up at Kitiwit.com (I am told it’s Korean for “keep in touch with“) search for my name and add me as a friend.
YugaTech.com is the largest and longest-running technology site in the Philippines. Originally established in October 2002, the site was transformed into a full-fledged technology platform in 2005.

Looks funny but you have a very smart comment there bud.
I mean with lots of established SNS there, with almost all people we know of are signed up, what’s left for this to do?

yea funny they call it homegrown when the site name is korean. makes no sense at all.
ikatlo says:
@paul he just said that it does not make sense, and not that it does not exist… tsk tsk tsk
benjie says:
You mean there’s also no such thing as Pinoy-made Kimchi, home-grown Japanese rice, and Philippine-raised African Elephant?
budflick says:
I also made a homegrown software, pero smalltimer lg. check my link, as of now 10 online lang ung maximum ko hehe. ofws mostly. optimized sa mobile phone ung site di pa ako nakaka gawa ng full version site.
Paul says:
Are you really the owner of budflick? If so, will you contact me at kulitan****@****.***? Let’s talk about your project.
post_app says:
lol If this was homegrown why the hell is their FB page mostly in Korean? probably because the owners are Korean with just Filipino devs? maybe not?
Abe Olandres says:
@post_app – told them the same thing. they’re looking for a fix on the language filter.
RC says:
yeah, and come to think of it the ratio of filipinos that will register is still not sufficient to outbeat FB
zumzum says:
come on be Pinoy proud!.. don’t be too skeptical about it.. it’s not there to beat fb but it shows how we innovate ourselves and prove them that Pinoys just got better and will always be.. Go Pinoys! Go Kitiwit!..

Rex says:
fb is hard to beat. I heard of a site bahaykubo, parang fb din pero not so popular. And it’s been out for some time na ata. Good luck kitiwits! :)
