Was invited by GrooveNet President Greg Kittelson to visit their office and check out what they were doing with this new online community for Filipinos they’ve been cooking up. Jayvee tagged along since he already met Greg several times in the past.
GrooveNet is basically an online system much likes MySpace and Friendster but is developed by Filipinos specifically for the online Pinoy. They are also running an “Open Alpha†for the online 3D virtual world called THERE Philippines (licensed from THERE U.S.A.).
Jayvee has been telling me to download (57MB) a copy and try it but never got to install it on my laptop. I just had to create an account during the meet-up and played for a while with the guys teaching me some of the neat tricks around THERE.
Greg showed me the roadmap and even allowed me to a add few suggestions for improvement (they’re using Writely for documentation, project management and collaboration) to the functionalities.
I will need to play some more and get the hang of it before I can write a thorough review of the community.
For the meantime, if you want to try THERE Philippines, just sign up, download a copy here and start playing around. You will need some THERE bucks to buy and use items in the virtual world so leave me a note here and I’ll share with you some of the *bucks* I have.
P.S.
My avatar name there is yuga, obviously. :)
ei, pahingi ako ng “bucks” mo, ksi mukha akong pulubi sa outfits ko. di pati ako makalipad. = )
If there’s a person that knows how to maximize today’s free technologies for the gaming industry in the Philippines, it is GK. He was a former boss of mine (ex-founder of dme/Mobius), a former Product Manager of Gunbound Philippines.
He sure knows what he’s doing and he is doing it right.
^_^
Sounds like Second Life. Do I have enough time to spend on these things… hmmmm
