Yahoo! Buzz to close down on April 21

Another ones bites the dust — this time it’s Yahoo! Buzz. It’s the 2nd blog-related service that Yahoo! axed this year. The Yahoo! Buzz blog has this short message post a couple of weeks ago.

Yahoo! Buzz will be discontinued as of April 21, 2011. As of this date, you will be unable to access the Yahoo! Buzz site. This was a hard decision. However this will help us focus on our core strengths and new innovations.
We appreciate your patronage.

The Yahoo! Buzz Team

Launched by Yahoo! back in August 2008, Buzz was supposed to copy what Digg was really good at — social news and bookmarking. But now that Digg is also slowly dying, Yahoo! Buzz took an early hint.

Last February, Yahoo! also shut down MyBlogLog.

    focus on what?

  2. RJ says:

All things, good or bad, must come to an end. Don’t worry Facebook will die too. Sooner or later.

  3. EgyBoi says:

this is not a good news for yahoo buzz users =(
I hope they will not close their other service soon.

  4. kyle says:

Because there’s no active communities involve in Buzz. Compare it to reddit in which the discussions will make your nose bleed

  5. allan says:

i think skype is slowly killing ym. in the office. we all use skype, we rarely use ym or not at all.

  6. florencia says:

yeah. i don’t even go to my yahoo messenger anymore.

  7. Jan says:

Facebook slashed yahoo silently. Its rare for us friends to chat in yahoo messenger anymore. group chats and announcement are made via facebook.

  8. csseyah says:

ano nang nangyayari sa Yahoo.. parang may binubuo silang plano ah! hehehhehe

  9. Faith@ahead says:

not only Yahoo! sites, but also MSN/Windows Live/Bing sites are dying down too…

  10. Alfie says:

…and don’t forget Geocities!, which Yahoo closed, I think, two years ago.

  11. Calvin says:

    yahoo meme siguro susunod.

  12. nameless says:

Yahoo will be shutting most of its services soon. They aren’t improving anymore.. Their yahoomail and yahoo messaging are too slow and buggy.. They are only popular here in the Philippines nowadays. If people will be given a chance to experience skype’s messaging services, and gmail’s email, i guess they won’t go back to yahoo services anymore.. Yahoo must catch up with their technology for them to stay on the competition.

  13. technobaboy says:

there are too many sites doing the same thing yahoo buzz does. i wonder where the social bookmarking thing is heading.

  14. cheryl golangco says:

I hope they don’t close down delicious as well. I just started getting the hang of it! haha

  15. McKorni says:

It seems that Yahoo isn’t “trending” anymore.
Watch them go to bankruptcy very soon.

  16. KennyV says:

First MyBlogLog and now YahooBuzz. They’re probably focusing on yahoomail-fb-twitter integration.

  17. elmerlovesoreo says:

A lot of Yahoo! services are closing lately.
